ACTION REQUIRED: SHOW CAUSE APPLICATION DUE 6 June 2016

Dear Student,

On 6 May you were advised that you are required to show cause why your enrolment should not be cancelled under the Enrolment and Academic Progression Rules (available at http://www.uq.edu.au/myadvisor/university-rules).

Records indicate we have not yet received an application from you.  This email serves as a reminder that if your Show Cause Application is not received at UQ by Monday 6 June 2016 your enrolment will be cancelled.

Your application must be received at the Student Centre by Monday 6 June 2016. I encourage you to submit the application as soon as you have all the available information rather than waiting until the last day to submit.  If you intend to post your complete application, I suggest you do so soon to ensure it’s received at UQ by the due date.

Your show cause letter must demonstrate that you are able to identify the factors that have impeded your studies and, importantly, must detail how you have/will resolve those issues.  Your letter should address the issues stated on the Show Cause Application form.

Should you require assistance with preparing your application please immediately contact the Student Help on Campus (SHOC) Education and Postgraduate Advocate at your relevant campus.  If you wish to seek assistance I encourage you to contact the UQ Union as soon as possible to ensure you allow enough time to make an appointment and/or seek the assistance you require.

Should you require assistance with preparing your show cause application you may choose to visit the SHOC Education & Equity site and read the show cause resources they have available. You may then draft a letter and write down any questions you may have, and make an appointment to speak with an advocate using their online booking system

Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students may request assistance from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit:

If a Show Cause Application is not received by 28 January 2016 your enrolment will be cancelled.  This cancellation does not attract any academic or financial penalty.   If you are entitled to a refund of fees paid, please see the following website for advice on applying for a refund: www.uq.edu.au/myadvisor/refunds.

The Show Cause Application can be downloaded from the myAdvisor website  http://www.uq.edu.au/myadvisor/index.html?page=57533

If you are an international student you are reminded that satisfactory academic progress is a condition of your student visa.  If your enrolment is cancelled, the University must report this information to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) which has the authority to cancel your visa.

If you decide not to submit a Show Cause Application this trimester and would like to return to study in a later trimester, you must submit a Show Cause Application by   15 July 2016 for Trimester 3 2016.  Please note – when considering the timing of your application, students should be aware that not all courses are on offer in each trimester.  Students are advised to contact UQ College to establish trimester course schedules and to ensure that they have completed any pre-requisite requirements.

If you are a domestic student intending to interrupt your study, contact your faculty office to confirm if you have retained your quota place and will meet program requirements if you interrupt your study.

Please ensure that your contact details displaying on mySI-net are current.

If you would like more information regarding the Enrolment and Academic Progression rules please contact the Student Centre on 3346 8304 or email academicprogression@uq.edu.au   If you email, please quote your student number so that we can refer to your record when responding to your query.

When you lodge a Show Cause Application the noting “Show Cause Application Lodged” will appear on your studies report.

If you believe you have received this email in error, as you have already submitted your show cause application please advise the Academic Progression Officer immediately via email academicprogression@uq.edu.au
